Bookham Court is approached along Bookham lane, signposted off the B3143, between Alton Pancras and Buckland Newton. The right hand turning into Bookham Court has good visibility. Low cars will need to drive with care as there is a small hump in the driveway. The car park is gravel, leading onto tarmac paths outside all the cottages. The level garden is to the rear of the cottages. There is a games room next to Great Coombe for use by all the guests. There is a ramp leading up to double doors into the games room, where there are children’s toys and table tennis and snooker table. Guide dogs or assistance dogs are welcome in the cottages.
Great Coombe and Crowthorne both have a downstairs bedroom and shower/wetroom with grab rails and are suitable for wheelchair users (M2). The Wagon House is all on one level with a wetroom suitable for part-time wheelchair users. This wetroom is smaller than Great Coombe and Crowthorne and has a grab rail beside the shower. (Please contact Nicola for more details and room sizes.) Beds in the cottages have good quality non-feather pillows and duvets. Information folders are left in each cottage, with information about the locality, including contact telephone numbers for doctors, dentist etc. Most mobile phones work in or outside of the cottages. (You may have to walk up the hill slightly for some networks) A mobile phone is available to borrow if guests phones do not work.
GREAT COOMBE is the left-hand side of the old barn. French windows lead directly into the sitting room, with another French window leading onto the patio and garden at the back. Both are accessible in a wheelchair. There is also a French window from the downstairs bedroom onto the patio. The sitting/dining room is a large open plan room with plenty of room for wheelchair movement. The kitchen leads off the sitting room and then directly into the downstairs twin bedroom. There is a bell/whistle in the bedroom. All the floors are wooden, with doors wide enough for a wheelchair. The downstairs bedroom is a large room with an ensuite wet room with a flush to floor shower, grab rails, low mirror, alarm and shower stool (shower chair available on request). One of the single beds will allow a hoist underneath. Stairs lead off the sitting room to the 3 upstairs bedrooms. There is one bend in the stairs. The front double bedroom has a small ensuite shower room. There is a further bathroom for the other double room and twin bedroom.
LITTLE COOMBE is the right-hand side of the barn. It is not suitable for guests that cannot climb stairs as there is no downstairs bedroom. It has wooden floors downstairs, with a French window onto its own patio. There is a small kitchen joining the sitting room and a downstairs toilet. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms, with ensuite bathroom and shower rooms.
THE WAGON HOUSE is adjacent to Little Combe and Great Coombe. There is a tarmac path to the front door. The front doors are wide with ample room for a wheelchair. This cottage is all on one level, with plenty of room in the sitting room and kitchen. There is room for a wheelchair beside the bed in the double bedroom but the room is not overly big. The twin bedroom can be made up as a twin or single room, giving more room for a guest that requires additional space. The new Wet room is all on one level but not as big as the wet room in Great Coombe and Crowthorne. This is more suitable for part time wheelchair users. There is a grab rail beside the shower and a shower stool.
CROWTHORNE COTTAGE is suitable for wheelchair users who wish to holiday with family and friends. Situated on the second bend of Bookham Lane, Crowthorne is about half a mile from the other Bookham Court Cottages. There is good visible access from the road. The drive is gravel but a car can be backed up to a concrete pad in front of the cottage for easier wheelchair access. The garden to the rear has a patio and grass area. A ramp is provided for easier access to the front door of the cottage, this is movable. The 2 front doors are wide, as are the French windows at the rear of the cottage. Crowthorne cottage is open plan with wooden floors. There is ample room to move between the kitchen, sitting room and downstairs bedroom, with doors wide enough for wheelchair users. The Smart TV has a remote control and sky Freeview channels with DVD player. The ground floor bedroom is situated off the sitting room, with room for a wheelchair to manoeuvre around the twin beds and a lowered rail in one wardrobe. A whistle/bell is left in the bedroom. Beds in the cottage have good quality non-feather pillows and duvets. The en-suite wet room is fully disabled (M2) with a flush to floor shower, grab rails, emergency bell and shower stool, (a shower chair is available on request).
